John Moye focuses his practice in the areas of technology and software litigation, intellectual property and unfair competition, and appellate litigation.
John has represented clients in a number of federal and state court proceedings, including representing a Research Triangle-based software company in a patent ownership dispute, representing a large manufacturer of industrial adhesives in a trade secret case, and representing an Atlanta-based Internet advertising company in a breach of restrictive covenant case in the Southern District of New York. He has also handled a variety of appellate maters, including preparing appeals to the Fourth and Second Circuit Courts of Appeal and overseeing a number of successful pro bono appeals to the North Carolina Court of Appeals as part of the North Carolina Guardian Ad Litem Program. In 2011, John was named a “Rising Star” in North Carolina by Super Lawyers Magazine®.
Since 2008, John has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina School of Law. He is currently teaching an upper level course at UNC Law, “Transition to Civil Litigation,” with a substantive emphasis on the North Carolina Trade Secrets Protection Act.
While in law school, John was a member of the North Carolina Law Review, where published articles on trade secrets law and copyright law. He also interned with the chambers of the Hon. W. Earl Britt, Senior District Judge for the United States District Court in the Eastern District of North Carolina.
Before law school, Mr. Moye taught English Literature at Xavier High School, the oldest Jesuit high school in New York City. He also worked as a reporter for Forbes Magazine in New York, where he wrote about technology issues and entrepreneurship.
