Dean Powell focuses his practice on patent preparation and prosecution as well as patent litigation. Mr. Powell practices in a wide range of technologies, including chemical, materials science, mechanical, and medical device arts as well as financial, food production, electrical, power generation, and nuclear-related technologies. Mr. Powell is a registered patent attorney before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Powell has represented Fortune 500 companies in patent infringement lawsuits. He has provided value added assistance in many aspects of patent litigation, including written discovery practice, preparation of witnesses for deposition, validity investigation and settlement negotiations. Mr. Powell regularly prepares and prosecutes patent applications on behalf of clients both in the United States and internationally.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Powell worked at GlaxoSmithKline in Research and Development, specifically the New Chemical Entities Department and Inhalation Product Development Department, through the Cooperative Education Program at North Carolina State University. While attending law school, he was a member of the Holderness Moot Court Bench and Craven Moot Court Competition Bench.
In 2011, Mr. Powell received the Individual Pro Bono Award from the Intellectual Property Section of the North Carolina Bar Association.
